介绍:During the last three years that I have spent here in China, I have had the chance to travel quite extensively. Whether it be alone or with my classmates, the places I have set foot on are numerous. The first place I traveled first, except Beijing of course, was the beautifully clean and peaceful city of Dalian. This windy town, close by the sea, is a hotspot for foreigners looking for an alternative to the big, buzzing and overwhelming life experience that Beijing and Shanghai both have to offer. Of course, the city has gorgeous beaches and a unique charm that’s quite a bit foreign; the Russian and Japanese architectural style is still very much alive and demonstrated by a lot of old constructions that were built during the occupation of the city. I can say without a doubt that Dalian is my favourite city in China; and one I would very much like to live in.
The second city that’s particularly close to my heart is the Flower City by the Pearl river, Guangzhou. It is the city I’m the most familiar with – Except Beijing – because I have traveled there four times. While talking to friends who hail from the Northern parts of China, I have noticed that some of them don’t hold Guangzhou especially deep in their hearts: is it because the city, with Shenzhen, has always been at the avant-garde of China’s economic growth? Nevertheless, I very much enjoy Cantonese food and the Southern culture of China has always been very attractive to me, probably because all the major Canadian Chinatowns (Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal’s) still hold a deep resemblance with Cantonese culture. A large part of my likeness for Guangzhou is probably also due to the fact that the weather over there is comfortable all thorough the year; it’s something that, of course, holds quite a bit of exotic value to the average Canadian.
My third favourite city would have to be Shanghai. Although I’ve only had the chance to visit the largest city in China on two occasions, each time I arrived in the exciting metropolis, I could feel the sense of opportunity that drove millions of Chinese away from their hometowns to Shanghai, in search of a better job and better salaries to support their families back home in the countryside. A lot of people like to say that Beijing is the cultural and political capital of China, and that Shanghai would be its economic counterpart. While I think there’s definitely truth in that saying, I also have a deep affection for Shanghai because like the Northern Capital, it’s a very complete and international metropolis. Searching for Middle-easter
n food at 11 o’clock at night? Well in Shanghai, look no more because the city has great restaurants offering a large selection of foreign foods.
In conclusion, I can say that what I like the most about Chinese cities would be the fast-paced lifestyle they all have to offer, and my travels have only highlighted that fact. China has a lot to offer in terms of sightseeing and tourism, and I can only hope that this text has helped you realize that you want to see more of the Middle Kingdom!
