As I see it, paper books could never be substituted because of their unique merits.

Traditional books were often predicted to be replaced by new technology such as the Internet or smart phones in the past several decades, however, this prediction has never been realized until now. Similarly, traditional books will not withdraw from the stage of history due to e-reading.
