In this argument, the professor raises serious counterarguments against the reading by providing three different evidences to challenges the reasoning about why sea star population declines in the passage.

Firstly, the professor disagrees with the first reason in the passage that the parasite attachés itself to sea star, which has a bad effect on the health of sea stars. He rebuts that this parasite only harm sea star in its reproductive season because it damages the breeding system of sea stars. However, the lethal disease appears in any season, so the reasoning in the passage is not established.

Secondly, the professor points out that although there are bacteria in the shellfish, which is the staple diet of sea star, the bacteria will not have any bad effect on the stars, because sea stars are immune to the bacteria. Therefore, there must be other reasons to cause sea star decline.

At last, the reading passage mentions that the rising of water temperature weakens the sea star’s immune system. However, the professor shows evidence that in areas where the water temperature does not rise, there are also many sea stars die because of the disease. (197 words)
