　　1. 在现代，很多致命疾病已经可以得到治疗，但它们很昂贵。富人可以轻松的购买这些药品和手术，如器官移植，艾滋病病毒冷冻，来延续生命，而穷人则因为负担不起而死去。

　　What are the effects of modern technology on different social classes? Some people believe the technology broadens the gap between the rich and the poor. Personally, I think this assertion underestimates the great contributions of technology to the improvement of living conditions of low-level social groups, and my reasons will be explored as below.

　　Admittedly, I have to concede that technology-based products make a bigger difference between rich people and poor ones, because such technology is too expensive to be afforded by average people. For example, by purchasing high-cost advanced medicines and surgeries, like anti-AIDS tablets and organ transplantation procedures, rich people in fatal diseases or cancers can prolong the life expectancy. By contrast, the destiny of ill poor people struggling in same troubles has to be the early death, because they fail to pay for the incredibly costly medical bills.

　　However, to a larger extent, I strongly believe the scientific advancement narrows this gap. The typical example is about Internet technology, which smashes the privileges of rich groups in education, business and entertainment. Specifically, online education, such as open courses of famous universities and professors, are convenient and free of charge. At home, poor students can obtain professional knowledge and skills that give them advantages in employment, with no concern of fees for tuitions and accommodations in school. In addition, online business eliminates the physical and financial costs of opening a shop, which means poor people can have new opportunities to start up their own business and gain the extra income. Moreover, in the past, international travelling is only for the richest class, because of the high expenditure in transportation like air flight. Today, through the online technology, all kinds of pictures and videos documenting cultures, tourism attractions, natural landscapes, history buildings and museums of other countries and continents can be delivered in the screen of computer. In other words, the Internet makes travelling abroad available for poor people.

　　In conclusion, I think the gap between the rich and the poor is smaller, for new technologies bring more benefits to those disadvantages groups. Although there are some innovative products unaffordable for poor people, the technology development comprehensively improve the living qualities of them, in terms of the education, employment, financial income and amusement.

　　Nowadays, in the digital times, a large number of high-tech tools appear gradually in our daily life. Not everyone may make full use of them, and various technologies build a gap between the rich and the poor. From this point, in my opinion, technology may increase the distance in the wealth.

　　In accordance with the reality, only few people can control these advanced technology, then take advantage of it to obtain more low-priced labor forces. In terms of education, few people could achieve the higher level of knowledge, while most of them can only master the technology in general level. Therefore, the rich with good education background is able to earn a large number of profits. In a long term, it may cause negative effects, which may lead to wars or deeper social conflicts. So, there would be no harmony in the society due to the pyramid social structure.

　　Since technology is the very force to social development, and increase fortunes, more profits, however, are earned by the normal people, not just by the rich. In this case, there are a decreasing gap between the rich and the poor. In fact, high-tech tools may be bought in lower price, and the days that only the rich can afford them seem to be history. More choices are open to the poor. Therefore, the formation of two extremes starts to be ended in global technology expansion, which is the trend for future since 21st century. It’s unimaginable for the mankind. However, there are still a large number of people not being able to take full advantage of the trend as a result of poverty and social discrimination.

　　To sum up, it would be wiser and imperative for the poor to get technology by education policy. The purpose seems to allow more people to learn how to manage ever-growing technology for their survival. Actually, not everyone could equally enjoy the interests the technology brings out.
