　　Should environmental problems caused by technology be solved with new technological breakthroughs？ This has been a heated social issue in debate. Personally, I believe that living a simpler life and continuously developing new technology should work together to settle these problems, and my reasons will be explored as below.

　　On one hand, I have to concede that the massive application of modern facilities driven by new technologies is the root for environmental pollution, so that a simpler life away from technology should be encouraged. For example, using bicycle to replace private cars for daily commuting can substantially reduce the gas emission, which is a preventive way against global warming and the exploitation of fossil fuels. In addition, if we can eliminate the dependence on electronic devices like air conditioners, microwave ovens and refrigerators called as energy vampires, then the social requirements for the power will be inhibited, which means less coal and oil would be burned in power plants. Therefore, industrial pollution like smog and chemical wastes which could contaminate the ecosystem would be avoided.

　　On the other hand, I still believe that it is science that can provide ultimate solutions to environmental pollution, in terms of the fact that human modern life could not continue without technology. For example, in order to eradicate the concern of air pollution, this is a necessity for the combination of scientific fields from mechanical engineering to biochemistry to physics, which can design new green engines that are powered by electricity with zero pollution.

　　When it comes to solving industrial pollution that has nothing to do with people’s lifestyle, new technology is also playing a leading role. For example, new pollution-free machines and filtering system should be set up in assembly lines of factories, which can achieve a goal of green manufacturing. Moreover, today, the research of new materials which are fully degradable and recyclable can completely prevent land degeneration or deforestation. By this way, the co-existence between industry and the nature can be realized possibly.

　　All in all, environmental issue is too complicated and extensive to be solved singly by simple lifestyle or technology development. In other words, the best answer is the cooperation between them.

　　People have different views about whether or not they need to continuously use some technologies which cause many environmental problems. In my opinion it is not viable to give up using technologies, and the technological progress can mitigate the problems.

　　On the one hand, some technologies could cause many natural environmental issues, in particular in the contemporary industrialised world. Many people argue that the only way to avoid environmental problems is to deny the use of technologies. They believe that bicycling should replace cars whose emissions will cause air pollution, and living in wooden houses instead of modern buildings, can avoid using cement which contributes to water contamination during its production. I disagree with this idea because human culture have been moving on from the achievement of a wide range of technologies which make us comfortable and joyful, so it is not realistic for people to give up the way which they are used to.

　　On the other hand, I believe many sophisticated technologies will be able to eliminate pollution caused by out-of-date technologies. For instance, water purification equipment can filter and purify sewage while air filters can clean the dirty air. These facilities can be effective and efficient to deal with the environmental problems. Besides, many scientists are researching and improving those old technologies. Fuelled cars will be replaced by electronic cars which are more clean and environmental-friendly, and this changing trend will definitely go hand in hand between technology and environment.

　　In conclusion, although it would probably be feasible for us to live in a simple way, I am convinced that advanced technologies will absolutely help us protect natural habitats.

　　There is no doubt that modern technology has caused a variety of environmental issues, both in cities and towns. Ironically, I feel that technology can address some of these problems but at the same time, personal effort is a must.

　　Theoretically, addressing some environmental issues by adopting simple lifestyles is sensible. According to the statistics, during the last 100 years, the earth's surface temperature has risen dramatically because of human activities. Therefore, some people feel that the changes in our lifestyles can reverse this worrying trend. For example, the growing number of vehicles on the road emits a large quantity of green house gases, such as carbon dioxide, which will worsen the air quality. If residents chose other modes of transport, like buses or subways, this serious condition would be alleviated to a large extent. However, in my opinion, this policy would be very unpopular with some people, especially those living in the suburb, who do need to travel on roads.

　　While it is undeniable that an individual's behaviour has a profound effect on the environment, other people argue that the improvement in technology can tackle some problems in turn. For example, the technology today is available to produce electric cars that would be both quieter and cleaner to use. Persuading manufacturers and travellers to adopt this new technology would be a more effective strategy for improving air quality fundamentally.

　　My own view is that apart from individual effort and environmental friendly technologies, we need to do more, such as introducing related laws and regulations. Environmental problems are so complex that each effort should be combined together to win the battle."

　　It is irrefutable that progress in technology leads to environmental problems. Some individuals are of the opinion that if people live a simple life and do not use the things that technology has brought us then these problems can be solved whereas others opine that only technology can solve these problems. In the following paragraphs, I intend to discuss both viewpoints.

　　Some people say that if humans stop using technology and lead a simple way of life then only we can save the environment. They argue that it is the luxuries people use which damages the environment. If people don't use air conditioners, automobiles and other such things that technology has brought us, then naturally there would be less pollution and natural resources like fossil fuels would be saved and all this would save the environment.

　　On the other hand there are people who say that technology alone could save the environment. They opine that now we have come so far ahead in technology that there is no going back. We cannot ask the people of the jet age to go back to the age of the bullock cart.

　　There are a lot of advances going on technology which are helping the environment a lot. One prime example is finding solutions to water problems in developing countries such as Africa. By pressurising sea water to produce vapour jets and filtering them through carbon nano tubes, we can get clean drinking water from sea water - an almost inexhaustible resource. Furthermore, Japan is working to build a working space solar power system by 2030. By drawing on the colossal energy of the sun, it could meet the entire world's electricity requirements indefinitely without nuclear or GHG emissions. If successful, the impact on the world would be monumental. It would mean energy for schools, hospitals, and homes. It would mean another industrial revolution.

　　To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that, technology alone can solve the world's environmental problems. We are finally entering an era where engineering and technology are making the world a better place. It would be highly unpractical to ask people to adopt a simpler way of life."

Instead, they ate fruit, wore the skins of animals and sleep in the caves. Therefore, there will be no issues with environment at all if we opt for a simple way of life. Minimalism is one of the trendiest lifestyles embraced by many people around the world.

　　Scientists can develop new technologies so environment problems can be solved or alleviated at least. For example, they can raise the fuel economy by introducing hybrid cars or explore clean fuels like electricity to power a car. Tesla is not only clean but quiet so it does not produce any atmospheric pollutants or make any obnoxious noises.

　　However, no one would be willing to turn back their clock and lead a pre-modern life but we still need to advocate a simple way of life even though technology is indispensable. Stopping wearing fur, driving less and riding more, using double-side printing is something we can do in our daily life.

　　To conclude, the minimalism lifestyle coupled with the help of technology can contribute to a better solution of environmental problems.
