Today, people can work and live in anywhere they want, because of the improvement of communication technology and transport. Do advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

由于交流高科技化和便捷的交通，人们可以去任何他们想去的地方工作和生活。你觉得利大于弊吗?

1. 远程通讯的好处让人们可以在家办公了，也就是soho的生活方式。这提供了上班的便利，节约了员工的上下班时间，也剩下了公司办公的硬件成本，如租用设施和场地的费用。

2. 然而，科技的进步虽然让人们可以任意的居住和工作，但是它带来的弊大于利。首先，一种以互联网为中心的生活会把人们隔绝开。他们每天面对的都是电脑，手机和传真，缺乏与人面对面的交流，也无法获得来自他人的关爱，最终会遭遇心理问题，如孤独和焦虑。

3. 另外就是，长途飞行能把人们带到另外一个陌生环境，这带来了环境污染。举例，频繁的飞行会排放大量的尾气，这恶化了空气，也加速了全球气候变暖。

Nowadays, new technologies have enlarged the extension for people’s living and working. In my view, the risks caused by this trend overweigh its benefits, and my reasons will be explored as below.

Admittedly, the telecommunication allows people to work at home, namely soho, which is beneficial, in many aspects. For example, it brings great convenience to commuters, because telework saves an employee’s time that could be spent on commuting over distance, such as the driving router between office building in downtown area and far-flung home in suburb, as well as keeping them from wasting time on standing in a line in bus station, or being stuck in traffic rush hours. Besides, it is by telecommuting that the costs and overhead for running a company, including office renting, water and electricity consuming, and facilities maintaining and updating, can be avoided. In this way, companies can provide lower-cost goods and services to customers.

However, advanced technologies facilitating human communication and traveling are detrimental to human world, to a large extent. The most worrying aspect of this trend is that an internet-oriented lifestyle makes people isolated and lonely. In fact, people have been used to staying in front of the computer in the private room, gazing at the screen, browsing pages and type comments of goods repetitively, instead of going out for real-world social activities. So there is much less face-to-face interpersonal communication in daily life, for example, with family member, peers, co-workers or clerks. Therefore, the attack of loneliness, depression and anxiety on their minds is inevitable and consistent, because people's life companies are no more than electronic devices, mice and keyboards featuring no breathing, no emotions and lifelessness.

What is worse, some environmental problems may be triggered by long-distance transport. This argument is based on the fact modern transportation systems, from airplane to shipping to railway, are one of the culprits of the excessive amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. For example, one international air flight might burn tons of oil and make incredibly plenty of emissions of waste gas into the air, thus seriously deteriorating the global warming.

In conclusion, the disadvantages of this trend are more than its advantages. Although telecommunication can save time and costs for working, seriously depending on modern transports and the Internet is harmful for the environment and people’s mentality.
