Nowadays, airplane has been the most favored option for long-distance transportation for traveling and goods delivering. Some people think that this technology only benefits the wealthy people. Personally, I hold an opposite view, because the decreased costs of air flights have been affordable for ordinary people, and my reasons would be explored as below.

Admittedly, in the past, travel by air was comparatively expensive due to its considerable consumption of fuel and exceeding services, which means air flights were only a privilege of small wealthy group. For example, in the first-half century of the 20th, by air traveling, rich people largely stretched their business domains abroad and obtained substantive profits. In comparison, such financial benefits resulting from air traveling had nothing to do with poor groups. What is worse, the air prosperity is based on the erosion damage of public benefits. For example, air travel is the culprit of emission of greenhouse gases, which leads to global warming. In the meantime, the development of air travel may render the rich people richer, and thus widening the gap between haves and have-nots. Furthermore, rich people may tend to enjoy its swiftness and comfortableness, while humble citizens have to take more care of their purse, giving ways to the endurance of filthy compartments and noisy surroundings in trains and buses.

However, the development of technology and economy has substantially improved people’s affordability, which brings relevant benefits to poor class, in many aspects. For example, in desert areas, vegetables were a rare food only affordable by the nobility. Today, however, thanks to the low-cost airfreight which can easily transports cheap fresh vegetables, fruits, flowers and seafood into the local market, average people can have an access to these green food ingredients for well-balanced and healthy diets. Moreover, cheap air also makes poor people more willing to go outside for the international tour, which can not only broaden their horizons, but also enhance the level of their happiness and emotional well-being.

In addition, airplanes can realize the employment in distant regions for poor class. In the pre-air age, average people looking for jobs were merely limited in local areas, due to they failed to afford expensive costs for long-distance traveling. Today, however, they can conveniently take a plane to go to another region or country for job interviews, within few hours. Therefore, a cheap and fast air transport system can speed up the movement of average people, thus creating more job opportunities for them.

In conclusion, it is undeniable that in the past air travel belonged to the privilege of few richest people due to its high prices. However, technological innovation and economic development have changed the case. Nowadays, air travel is beneficial to more and more people including those with less income and wealth.
