Nowadays, there is a heated phenomenon that more women have been involved in the military or police forces. Some people think this trend would bring negative results because the involvement of females might weaken the army. Personally, I partially agree with this assertion, and my reasons will be explores as below.

First of all, genetically women are not as physically strong as men. The fact is that women have a harder time moving quickly with a great deal of military equipment on their back, which often weight between 50 and 100 pounds. For this reason, they may not be able to maintain pace over a long period of time with male soldiers, regardless of how fit they are. Recent studies also identified that females are not able to adept at handling the increased g-forces in aviation due to their less dense skeletal system.

In addition, there is a concern that women at the frontline are more likely to be at risk of being captured and tortured, and possibly sexually assaulted because of their physical sizes. On psychological level, if a large proportion of jobs in army is occupied by females, its combat capability and morale might be unstable and easily affected by unexpected movements of females, such as weeping, escaping and fainting, because women are mentally vulnerable to the stress, fears and dangers in battlefield.

Nevertheless, keeping women from soldier positions in battlefields does not means refusing the application of females in any jobs of military. In fact, except for frontlines in battle, there are many other kinds of positions in army eagerly requiring the participation of females, like nurses, doctors and shrinks in military field hospitals. In these jobs, women can make great contributions to the military force by taking the full advantage of their professional abilities and personalities like patience, carefulness and gentleness.

In conclusion, in terms of the high demands for physical and mental strength in military fighting, women should not be allowed to join the first line in battlefield. However, they are suitable for out-of-battle jobs in hospitals.

In ancient times, women were thought to bring bad luck to the military and were not allowed anywhere near the army.Nowadays a small number of women work in organizations affiliated to the armed forces, but mainly involved in the logistics or other civilian work. As far as I am concerned, the army or the nay is not suited for the fair sex.

A life in the army is physically demanding for a woman. Indeed, many men can hardly cope with the vigorous training and drilling. It is true that we have female athletes who undergo intensive training daily, but what is required in the army goes against women’s nature. Being a soldier, you must learn how to kill other people. Most women would readily learn how to defend themselves but would balk when it comes to killing. Many are disturbed by the sight of blood and unable to handle a gun or dagger. Only under extreme circumstances would they find the nerve to pull the trigger. Only very few women can make good soldiers.

The psychological effects of a military career could be devastating. Combating experience is traumatic for most people. Many veterans suffer from post-war syndrome. The bloodlines and cruelty of war often haunts them for the rest of their lives despite their efforts to put the past behind. Even in times of peace, soldiers are trained for war. Daily exposure to the violence and harshness, which is routine in the army, may cause damage to their mental health.

War and fighting may be mankind’s unavoidable folly. By and large, men are its executioners and victims. It is sad enough that men are being exposed to the worst in mankind:cruelty, violence, wickedness and so on. Let’s spare our fair sex,as much as possible, the evil of the world. We must not all be comede sensitized and dehumanized. Some of us need to remain caring and gentle. The female is a balancing factor toward the good. Our children need to have at least one parent who is loving and considerate.

The 21st century has witnessed women's increasing participation in nearly every walk of life. However, the police or military force is still a male-dominated field throughout much of the world. The issue of gender inequality is brought back to the public attention.

Admittedly, serving the army or working for the police seems to be physically demanding for a woman, as both jobs require intensive strength training or even put people at the risk of losing their lives. However, in the information ago, academic ability has taken the place of physical strength as a dominant feature in these fields. For example, computerization and automation in the military have made it mi>ch easier for women soldiers to operate modern weapons, which overcomes physical limitation and muscle disadvantage. Females can perform military tasks as their male counterparts do, as long as they can be well-educated and well-trained.

More importantly, these are even certain jobs where females in the defense force can make more remarkable contribution than their male countervails. Since women are accustomed to dealing with matters with accuracy and caution, they are less likely to commit faults. This qualifies them in daily maintenance of the office, clerical jobs, medical services and logistics departments. Other inborn merits, such as the ability to empathize and understand, make females excel in positions involving interaction and communication with human personnel.

My view is that females should be viewed as equals to males in the defense force and their presence should be encouraged. Nature has given different attributes to both men and women, which is supposed to optimise the productivity and efficiency of an organization, rather than to cause gender discrimination. (274 words)
