  　　Do you agree or disagree with the following statement. It is better to make friends with intelligent people than with the people who have a good sense of humor.

  　　“A friend is one who believes in you when you have ceased to believe in yourself". This quote aptly describes the role that a friend plays in our life. As we can see that friends are always needed in every stage in our life, while more and more people now hold the opinion that the friends that we can have fun with are more valuable, reasoning the most important feature of friends is endless fun to be around with, I hold the opposite viewpoint that a friend in need is a friend indeed, thus smart friends are desirable in life.

  　　First of all, whenever we get problems in study we can turn to our close friends for help, and we both can enhance our knowledge. For instance, should we have difficulty understanding a concept or certain theory from a course, discussion with our friends who have a good command of that subject would bring home to a clear understanding of the definition. Through communication, we can gain some idea from our friend to see what they are thinking about over the issue, which can inspire or stimulate us to formulate our own viewpoints. What’s more, after exchanging opinions, we can broaden our thought and better understand the knowledge.

  　　Secondly, whenever we are suffering a hard time dealing with our work or study, a friend of high IQ provide assistance will help us overcome the period smoothly. Sometimes, the problems that we face can be bearable and we can solve them by ourselves but there will also be times that it seems so bleak that we need other people to help us solve them. For example, if we have a program which has to be done in a short time, and we don’t even have time dealing with our meals, a real friend can help us eliminate the obstacle in practical ways. They may cook or buy meals for us, who seems to be inconspicuous but will bring us great warmth during a hard time. Thus those friends instead of who amuse us are more important since similar circumstances inevitably occur.

  　　At last, it seems that most of the people have experienced being alone in a strange city or country, and when we get ill, the only one who can help us is the friends that are sharp enough to notice our slight difference, even in the voice or the tone, instead of the ones who are always ready to make fun. Under this circumstance, a sharp friend will spare no effort to take care of us, reminding us to take medicine on time and do some basic housework to make a healthy environment for us to recuperate. Thanks to their sincere help, we will no longer feel lonely although we stay at a totally strange place only because of the existence of the friends who we can turn to for help.

  　　Another quote to clarify my stance, "When friends stop being frank and useful to each other, the whole world loses some of its radiance." thus we also should try to be as sharp as our friends.
